

John Thomas Henkel, a lifelong Yonkers resident, died on Friday September 3, 2010 at St. John’s Riverside Hospital. He was 67 years old. He was born on January 28, 1943 to John B. and Catherine (nee Moylan) Henkel in Yonkers where he was raised and educated, graduating from Sacred Heart High School. Mr. Henkel was a salesman for the All Power Equipment Company in Mt. Vernon for many years. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Army from 1962 (during the latter part of the Korean War) through 1968. Mr. Henkel was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Church. He enjoyed bowling, fishing and trips to Atlantic City. On July 4, 1964, he married Helen Ann Rogewitz in Our Lady of the Rosary Church in Yonkers. Mrs. Henkel survives and lives in Yonkers. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, James Joseph Henkel and his wife Colleen of Stamford, CT and John Michael Henkel of Yonkers and one brother, Paul Henkel of Washington. He is also survived by his three grandchildren, Katie, J.J. and Nicole. He was pre-deceased by a son, Thomas John Henkel in 1993 and a sister, Suzanne Variano. Visitation will be at Whalen & Ball Funeral Home on Sunday & Monday 2-4 & 7-9 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Sacred Heart Church on Tuesday September 7th at 9:30 AM. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
