Joseph J. Hoar, a lifelong resident of Yonkers, passed away suddenly on Tuesday morning, September 15. Born in Yonkers on December 9, 1964, Joe attended St. Anthony's Grammar School and Gorton High School. He worked for over a decade at the Woodshed in Hartsdale, became a carpenter with Local 608 in New York City, and later a driver for Ace Endico. Joe was a gifted artist, spending much of his time painting, exploring digital arts, and wood working. He was an avid reader and environmentalist, and devoted Giants fan. He loved taking road trips and vacations with his family, especially to Roxbury in the Catskills, Cape Cod, and Georgia. He married Joann (Sorge) in Sacred Heart Church in Margaretville, NY on June 12, 1993. Besides his wife Joann, he is survived by children Charlotte Ann Hoar and Declan James Hoar, his mother Joan Gilley of Atlanta, sisters Bridget Hoar, Deirdre Rylander (Gus), and Vera Hoar, nieces and nephews in North Dakota and New York, including goddaughter Deirdre Kathleen Rouse, and many cousins. He was predeceased by his father, Joseph J. Hoar, Jr., and his uncle Peter B. Hoar, both of Yonkers. Visiting hours will be at Whalen & Ball Funeral Home on Friday 2-4 & 7-9pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Anthony’s Church on Saturday September 19th at 10am. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
