

He was born in Brooklyn NY on Dec 26, 1926 to Angelo and Josephina Bello. He attended Brooklyn schools and graduated from New York University where he obtained a BS degree in Electrical Engineering in 1948. He married Florence Purchia on Sept 2, 1950 and together they raised 5 daughters.
He worked as an engineer at Syska & Hennessey from 1948 – 1990 and then for AKF Engineers from 1990-2006, where he participated in the design of the city’s notable structures i.e. the UN building, the bridges connecting all the boroughs, Rockefeller Ctr, Madison Sq Garden and the 1964 World’s Fair. He finally retired at the age of 80.
He was most proud of his family, his work and the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren. His advice and counsel were regularly sought by them in all things regarding life’s most important decisions. He enjoyed holidays and traveling with family and lifelong friends from Brooklyn, designated “The Gang”.
His beloved wife, Florence predeceased him in 2011. He is survived by his 5 daughters, Kathryn (Daniel) Marcuccio, Leslie Bello, Linda (Ralph) Demaio, Mary (Ronald) Rumsey and Barbara (Charlie Carlson) Bello. He leaves a legacy of 6 grandchildren: Danielle (Alex) Atallah, James (Hannah) Marcuccio, Christopher and Ryan Rumsey, Lauren Demaio and Alyssa Finkel.
He was blessed to have 3 great grandchildren, Max, Ava and Gabriel Atallah.
He is also survived by his youngest brother, Joseph residing in New Hyde Park with his wife Anna, as well as a sister-in-law, Frances, from Douglaston NY. He was pre deceased by a younger brother John in 2015.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to his favorite charity, Tunnel 2 Towers or St Jude’s Children Hospital.
Visiting hours for Louis will be held Sunday, October 20, 2024 from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Whalen & Ball Funeral Home, 168 Park Ave, Yonkers, NY 10703. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, October 21, 2024 from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM at Christ the King Catholic Church, 740 N Broadway, Yonkers, NY 10701. Interment will follow at St Joseph's Cemetery, 209 Truman Ave, Yonkers, NY 10703.
