Maria Antonia Coelho

Maria Antonia Coelho, a longtime Yonkers resident, died on Tuesday April 29, 2014 at Michael Malotz Skilled Nursing Facility. She was 86 years old. She was born on May 31, 1927 in Portugal where she was raised and educated. Mrs. Coelho was employed in the housekeeping department at the Hebrew Home for the Aged in Riverdale for many years prior to her retirement. She was the first employee in housekeeping for the Hebrew Home. She was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Church and was a member of a Portuguese prayer group in Yonkers. She enjoyed sewing, knitting and praying for everyone. On November 29, 1948, she married her loving husband, Antonio Coelho in Lisbon, Portugal. Mr. Coelho died April 25, 1985. Mrs. Coelho is survived by four daughters, Fernanda Baptista and Teresa Moreira of Yonkers, Ana Paula Coelho of St. Louis, Mo. and Ana Cristina Coelho of New City, N.Y. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Lisa Muscatello, Kathy Tortorici, Luisa Baptista, Nicole King, Laura Baptista and Hannah Green and seven great grandchildren. Visiting hours will be at Whalen & Ball Funeral Home on Thursday & Friday 4-8 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Sacred Heart Church on Saturday May 3rd at 9:30 am. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
