Maria Uzdejczyk was born on December 25, 1933, in Kolarovice, Czechoslovakia - present-day Slovakia. In 1951, she courageously immigrated to the United States, landing in New York City, where she soon met the love of her life, Wolodymyr (Walter). The two were married in 1952 and settled in Yonkers, New York, where they built a beautiful life together and raised three children who were their pride and joy: Roman (Martha) Uzdejczyk of Vernon, CT; Daria (Andrij) Horbachevsky of Yonkers, NY; and Oksana (Michael) Tomaszewsky of Cortlandt Manor, NY.
A talented and hardworking woman, Maria spent many years as a professional dressmaker and seamstress before concluding her career as a wire cutter. Her meticulous craftsmanship and dedication were admired by all who knew her.
Above all, Maria’s greatest joy came from time spent with her family. She especially cherished every moment spent with her grandchildren - especially their visits and sleepovers, which filled her heart with happiness. Her beloved grandchildren are Natalie Horbachevsky, Juliana Horbachevsky, Christine (Frank) Uzdejczyk Perry, Andrew Uzdejczyk, Matthew Tomaszewsky, and Lukian Tomaszewsky. She was also blessed with two great-grandsons, Frankie and Walter Perry.
Maria was also a beloved aunt to Slawka (Mykola) Laba, Stefan Shcherby, Olga (Louie) DeRosa, and Grazyna (Piotr) Otulakowski, and she held deep affection for their children and grandchildren as well. Her extended family, both near and far, will forever miss their sweet and loving Maria.
Maria was predeceased by her devoted husband of 68 years, Walter Uzdejczyk; her mother, Jozefa Doroszincowa; and her sisters, Anna Dublanyk and Josephine (Bohdan) Shcherby.
Maria will always be remembered for her radiant smile, her kindness, humor, wit, and the boundless love she shared with everyone around her. Though her physical presence will be deeply missed, her warmth and spirit will live on forever in the hearts of those who loved her. Please remember her as she always was—smiling brightly and filled with love.
