and Joseph McMahon, passed away on June 23, 2021 after a long battle with Multiple
Sclerosis.
Beloved brother of Ellen (Michael) O’Neill, Patrick (Leigh Anne) McMahon, Carol Kerr, Loretta
(Ted) Bernhardi and Joseph McMahon.
Mike was grateful to live many years with his nephews John and Joseph Licht with whom he
shared a common and competitive interest in football. Mike was always interested in the careers
and families of his nieces and nephews: Michael, Tara, Maggie, Kate, Julie. Jennifer, Megan,
Nicole, John, Joe, Carissa, Ashley, Devin & Bridie and was entertained “trying” to keep up with
what they were all doing. He loved the idea that he was a “great” uncle to several more nieces
and nephews.
Michael graduated from Sacred Heart Grammar School and Gorton High School.
To say Mike enjoyed a good poker game and was a skilled card player would be an
understatement. He was a regular in Atlantic City and loved playing cards online.
Michael’s quick wit was delightful and his determination not to let MS defeat him was
inspirational to us all.
The family would like to thank the many doctors, nurses, home health aides, staff at Cabrini
Nursing home and Hospice of Westchester who helped Mike through his long battle with MS.
Mike, and we, very much appreciate all you did for him.
We will be celebrating Mike’s life at Whalen & Ball Funeral Home in Yonkers on Tuesday,
June 29th between 4 and 8pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, June 30th,
10:30am at Sacred Heart Church, Shonnard Place, Yonkers, NY. Internment will immediately
follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Yonkers.
