Sr. Maureen FitzPatrick, F.S.P.

Sr. Maureen FitzPatrick, F.S.P., a resident of Cortlandt Manor, died on Wednesday March 27, 2013 at the Hudson Valley Hospital. She was 86 years old. She was born on September 17, 1926 to Joseph and Hannah McKeown FitzPatrick in Weehawken, N.J. Sr. Maureen graduated from St. Joseph High School in West New York, N.J. and graduated from Ladycliff College in Highland Falls with a BA in English. She went on to receive an MA in Spanish from Fordham University and an MA in Religious Education also from Fordham. She then received her Certification as a New York Archdiocese Director of Religious Education. Sr. Maureen taught at several institutions in New York City, New Jersey, Philadelphia and Westchester County. She was the Provincial Superior of the Franciscan Sisters in Peekskill from 1969 to 1975 and was the Assistant Provincial Superior of the Franciscan Sisters from 1985 to 1987. She was also a Director of Religious Education in several parishes in the Westchester Area. Sr. Maureen is survived by two brothers, Patrick FitzPatrick of Reston, Va. and John FitzPatrick of Waldwick, N.J. and several nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. She was predeceased by one brother, Joseph FitzPatrick and two sisters, Alice FitzPatrick and Sally FitzPatrick Johnson. Visiting hours will be at the Marion Woods Convent, 152 Ridge Road, Hartsdale on Monday from 3 to 8 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Marion Woods on Tuesday April 2nd at 10 am. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
