Jimmy Horowitz, 67, was a true original. A boy from Columbus, Ohio, who grew into a man but never lost the child-like qualities that made him a gift to the world. Jimmy often said, "There's never been anyone like me." That assessment could not be more accurate - Jimmy was a star.
A family friend said it best, “It’s not that Jimmy’s slow, it’s that the world is moving a little too fast.” Jimmy was unique, and we were lucky to be invited into a special world that he created.
He was a Forrest Gump-like character with a warm, infectious smile and laugh. The many exploits - like the infamous streak at the Columbus Jewish Center, 13 consecutive trips to watch the ball fall at New Year's Rockin' Eve in NYC, and the national and local television appearances - were legendary.
Jimmy had a pure heart with an inquisitive nature when it came to spiritual matters. He often asked his dad if everyone goes to heaven, even bad people. His dad always assured him that everyone gets in heaven, but some folks live in bad neighborhoods. There is no doubt that Jimmy is in a good neighborhood.
Later in life, Jimmy's passion was collecting trophies and awards. Even in his final days, he yearned for a trip to Goodwill to pick up another gem.
Jimmy will be missed and the void is vast. But those precious memories he gave us endure and keep us smiling.
Jimmy is survived by his loving mother, Sue Horowitz; brothers, Gary and Danny; sister-in-law, Ricki Horowitz; nephew, Joey; and long-time friend Anne O’Rourke. He was preceded in death by his dad Robert Horowitz and his brother Tom.
The family thanks everyone for their support and will have a life celebration later this year. Memorial gifts can be made in Jimmy’s name to Lifewell Behavioral Wellness at https://www.lifewell.us/donate/ or send it to the following address:
