Pedro was born on July 11, 1941 in Guayama, Puerto Rico to Pedro and Carmen Santiago. He came to the US as a teenager and joined the United States Army. During his service in the military, he gained a passion for culinary arts. This led him to train to become an amazing executive chef working in New York, Chicago, and Arizona. He married the love of his life, Margie, on December 21, 1988. Together they raised their children, creating a lifetime of memories. Weekends and school breaks consisted of traveling, going to the horse races, and watching wrestling. There was never a dull moment. He always supported his children in everything they did, never missing an event whether it was traveling out of town for a football game or sitting at a dance concert for hours. He helped raise countless nieces and nephews and showed love to so many others. He might have portrayed being a tough guy but underneath it all he was a big softie with a big heart. He had a great sense of humor and a quick wit. He loved to dance and to watch baseball and wrestling. He loved ice cream, especially his Dairy Queen Snickers blizzards. He loved to cook for his family. His children and grandchildren will miss the breakfast burritos that he lovingly made every morning for countless years. He was the best husband, dad, tata, and tio that his family could ever ask for. He will be missed but we know that this isn’t the end. We will be reunited again someday.
Our family would like to express our gratitude to the remarkable staff at Sunview Respiratory and Rehab and Stillwater Hospice for taking such great care of our beloved Pedro and helping us through the process.
