I visited with Mrs. Gutierrez a few times. She was a colorful, courteous lady.  I enjoyed talking with her and only wish I could have spent more time with her.  Everyone who has ever visited me in Yuma has been treated to Mr. G's or Chile Pepper.  After they leave they always want me to send them some more.  My condolences to her family and friends.  You were one of a kind. Rest in peace.

From delivering lunch orders to Mr. G's while attending I. C. school, then cleaning tables at La Casa Gutierrez to picking up my phone order to Chili Pepper... Bessie, Juan and the Gutierrez family have been a major part of my life. Their memory is embedded in my heart as the historic pictures at Mr. G's. My heart and prayers to the Gutierrez family.

I am so sorry to see another precious treasure from Yuma's history leave us.  The folks that settled Yuma were hearty and hardworking, the Gutierrez family is an excellent example of that. I have family all over the country and whenever they come home, they want Mrl G's.  So sorry for you loss.

My sincere heart felt sympathy to the Gutierrez family.  My aunt Bessie will be fondly remember on how she treated my Dad, her only brother.  May they all now enjoy peace with family who have gone before them.  God bless all of you during your sorrow.

To Gutierrez Family,  My thoughts and prayers are with you.  May your memories bring you confort.  This is one memory of mine of Bessie. - In the fifties my mom and dad would get with Juan, Bessie, Jim, and Rose to play cards at the house with the gold fish pond in front.  Us kids would play outside and all around the safe 7th Ave. neighborhood where we met most of all of Bessie's neighbors.  Bessie will be one special person that Yuma should always remember.  I know I will.

Thank you all for sharing the memories of my grandmother. It is nice to know she will be missed and was loved by so many people.

To the Guitierrez Family:  Please accept my condolences for your loss.  I never had the privilege of knowing Bessie, but my mother Katherine LeRoy and my late Aunt Mary Redondo Lorona knew her from the early days of Yuma.  One story I was told by Mary Redondo  Lorona long ago was how Bessie got started in business.  She began to sell her specialty tamales "door to door" . . . and the rest is history.  Even now, no visit to Yuma is complete UNTIL my routine visit to Mr. G's or Chile Pepper.  My Mr. G's and Chili Pepper visits are not unique.  Most Native Yumans have also incorporated Mr. G's and Chili Pepper into their lives . . . even after they have moved away from Yuma.  I still have a standing request from my Tucson family to bring them their Mr. G's burritos  ... and NEVER to forget the salsa.  In closing, "Casa Guitierrez" was my older brother's "favorite" restaurant . .. the late Louis LeRoy, Jr. -  What wonderful heritage your family enjoys.  Despite the loss of Bessie Gutierrez    . . .  she lived a long beautiful life and her talents, her legacy are embedded in the very core of Yuma tradition!  Sincerely . . .
