

Yuma native Betty Marie Winton, was born November 2, 1945 to the parents of the late Rev. Albert Reed Sr. and Elnora Reed. From that union there were 6 kids, Evelyn Williams (deceased), Albert Reed Jr. (deceased), Barbara Ann Brown (deceased), Margaret Smith (James Smith) Henderson, Nevada, Carol Carter (Johnny Carter) Beaumont, Ca.
While in the 7th grade Betty met the love of her life and future husband Clifford Winton Jr. they were married on June 11, 1963, and from this union there was one child born Bridget Lanore Winton.
Betty graduated from Yuma Union High School in 1964, and later in 1969 began her career with Valley National Bank as a Bookkeeper, and from there worked herself up through the ranks. In 1991 after 27 years, she decided to retire from her position with Valley National Bank’s Financial Center as Operations Officer/Assistant Branch Manager.
In 1994, Betty had decided to take on a second career in the Cosmetology Industry, following in the footsteps of her daughter Bridget. She had the TRUE ENTREPRENEUR SPIRIT, and pursued her true passion for clothing and accessories. So, in 1997, she opened Ms. Betty’s Boutique, a novelty store full of Colorful clothing, fun imaginative Trinkets and Souvenirs.
Betty had been active in the Yuma community and served on several boards and organizations. Board Member for Yuma Leadership, Commissioner for The Yuma City Housing Authority, Black Women’s Task Force Liaison, Yuma County Town Hall Steering Committee, Board of Director N.A.A.C.P. Eastern Star Ruth Chapter #14, Smoking Ordinance Task Force, Campaign Chairwomen, Facility Coordinator for the 65th Annual Conference for the Country Women’s Council in Scottsdale, Member of Union Baptist Church, and Member of the Ebony Gospel Singers. That’s just to name a few….
Betty said she had a problem saying “no” when asked to serve on various committees. She strongly believed that 100% should be committed, not 99½%.) She always strived for PERFECTION!!!
If you knew Betty Winton, you knew that she was meticulous about her personal style and always dress to impress. Her motto was “When you look your best, you feel your best”!
Betty will be greatly missed and her memories will be cherished by her husband of 60 years Clifford Winton Jr., daughter Bridget Lanore Winton-Pendleton (Skip Pendleton), goddaughter Leatrice Carter, god grandson Jeramiah Woods, god granddaughter Josephine Grace Woods. Sisters Margret Smith (James), Carol Carter (Johnny) and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
There will be a memorial service at 10:30 AM at United Fellowship Church, 360 B. South 8th Ave, Yuma, Arizona 85364.
