
Henry M. Martinez (91) passed away Saturday, January 12, 2013. He was a lifelong resident of Yuma, graduating from Yuma High School where he excelled in football and would eventually become the border conference boxing champion. After duty in the Navy during WWII on the USS Bittersweet, Henry returned to college at Northern Arizona University receiving both his Bachelors and Masters Degrees.
Henry started his teaching career at Williams High School in 1947, became principal of Williams High School and then returned to Yuma High School as Assistant Principal, Athletic Director and disciplinarian where he remained for the next 19 years touching countless students' lives and of course, many became part of hanks ball club. Outside of school Henry was an avid hunter and could usually be seen with his dogs roaming the countryside.
Henry is survived by his wife of 65 years, Isabell, His three sons, Henry Jr., Glen and Roy. He also has numerous grand kids and great grand kids.
A memorial service will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Mission, 417 S. 15th Ave., on January 26th, 10:00 am.
