

Maria Alejandra Bustamante, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on February 14, 2026, surrounded by her family. She was born on April 9, 1951, in Magdalena, Sonora, Mexico, to Jesus Saldamando Gamez and Argelia Tautimez Bustamante. She grew up in San Luis Río Colorado, Sonora, before moving to Yuma, Arizona, in 1973.
Alejandra was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She had a strong faith in Jesus Christ and a testimony of eternal families. Whether through church callings, quiet acts of service, or heartfelt conversations, Alejandra shared her testimony with conviction.
Throughout her life, she dedicated herself to her family, raising five daughters. Alejandra generously shared her talents by sewing countless dresses for her family and others. She expressed her artistic abilities by creating keepsakes with love and care. She also enjoyed home design, gardening, and caring for her many fruit trees. Additionally, she devoted many hours to family history research, feeling a deep connection to her ancestors.
Her grandchildren will fondly remember her for her quick wit, love for sudoku puzzles, delicious pancakes, guitar playing, egg burritos, extensive nativity collection, and her handmade flannel quilts.
Alejandra is survived by her daughters, Karla Serrano (Joseph), Gabriela Hull (Dan), Ericka Nelson (Paul), and Griscel Alcala (Erik), 14 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, two sisters, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by both of her parents, two siblings, and her daughter, Edna Thompson (Chris). A private family service is being held on Monday, March 2, 2026, at Desert Lawn Memorial Park in Yuma, Arizona.
