

Longtime Yuma resident Norma L. Ferguson passed away September 15th at Beehive Homes. Norma was born in Yuma on September 30, 1926. She is preceded in death by her husbands Mark Ammons and F.M. "Specs" Ferguson, her parents James and Alma Joyner, Sister Dorothy Spain, Brother Jimmie Joyner and Granddaughter Caroline Ammons. Norma is survived by sons James (Rita) Ammons and Edward (Kathi) Ammons, and daughter Linda (John) Bowden, four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Born and raised in Yuma, Norma was very active in the community contributing to its many causes. She had a love for arts which led her to become involved in the Yuma Fine Arts Association and the Yuma County Historical Society. In 1976, she was appointed by Governor Castro to the Arizona Commission for Arts and Humanities. She was also a member of the Yuma Library Board of Trustees and the Yuma Regional Medical Center Auxiliary. She was an avid golfer and tennis player and played in many local tournaments. She loved to garden and was a member of the Yuma Garden Club. An outdoor enthusiast, she was a charter member of the Yuma Women's Reel and Rifle Club.
Visitation will be Thursday, September 20th, at 9:00 A.M. at Johnson's Mortuary with graveside services following at Desert Lawn Memorial Park Garden of Good Shepherd at 10:00 A.M. Pallbearers will be Jim, Ed and Brian Ammons, Steve Martinez and Jason and Jacob Bowden. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to Hospice Compassus, 1025 W. 24th Street, Suite 15, Yuma, Arizona, 85364.
