

Paul E. Scates(1921-2010)Paul E. Scates, 88, passed away on Wednesday, January 6, 2010. He was born October 18, 1921 in Crum Creek, Oklahoma.Paul served in WWII with the 82nd Airborne Paratroopers, the 83rd Infantry division and the 142nd Infantry of the U.S. Army. He was employed at Teacker, Warner Ranches, J.C. Reeves, Orita Land & Cattle and Butters Spur as Ranch Foreman.Paul was a member of the Imperial Valley and Yuma Sheriffs Posse, Veterans of Brawley, and the Emmanuel Southern Baptist Church. He enjoyed roping, horses and biking.Paul is survived by his daughter, Dianne Walters of El Centro, CA.; sons, Paul E. Scates Jr. of Elko, NV., Ray (Marilyn) L. Scates of Suisun City, CA., and Howard (Peggy) L. Scates of LeGrande, OR.; 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.Paul was preceded in death by his parents, L.U. and Florence Scates; wife, Bonnie; brother, John; sisters, Elva and Daisy.A visitation will be held at Johnsons Mortuary Chapel on Friday, January 15, 2010 at 9:00 a.m. until the funeral service begins at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Desert Lawn Memorial Park, Yuma, Arizona.Pallbearers will be Ed Scates, Ray Scates, Howard Scates and Steve Wright.
