Richard Warren Martin, 79, passed away on January 11, 2026, in Yuma, Arizona. Born on January 6, 1947, in Jacksonville, Illinois, Richard lived a life marked by service, adventure, and an enduring love for family and the water.
A proud veteran of the United States Navy, Richard served aboard the USS Andrew J. Sterett during the Vietnam conflict. His time in the Navy sparked a lifelong connection to the sea and a deep appreciation for mechanical systems—skills he would carry with him throughout his life.
Early in his career, Richard worked for AMF Head crafting skis, showcasing his early talent for working with his hands. He was a master of all things mechanical and electrical—a man who could fix nearly anything he set his mind to. This gift led him to a fulfilling role as a marine mechanic for the National Park Service on Lake Powell. Later, he took on the unique position of facilities manager for a private island in the Bahamas, where he and his wife Linda spent eight remarkable years surrounded by turquoise waters and tropical skies.
Eventually returning to Page and Lake Powell—a place that had captured his heart—Richard resumed work with the National Park Service until retiring at age 70. A licensed Coast Guard Captain, he found joy in boating whether navigating the serene waters of Lake Powell or exploring the Caribbean Sea.
Richard shared countless adventures with his beloved wife Linda Kay Martin. Together they traveled extensively across the globe, creating memories that enriched their lives and deepened their bond.
He is survived by Linda; their children Leandra Sessions (Travis) and Jeffrey Wilson (BethAnne); grandchildren Ashleigh McClelland (Michael), Alex Sessions, Jared Wilson, Ian Sessions (Taylor), Morgan Wilson, and Lincoln Wilson; brothers Steven Martin (Bernice) and David Martin (Debbie); sisters Cindy Popejoy, Mary Cox, and Carole Sullenberger (Bob). He was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Evelyn Martin and brothers Ross and Mark.
Known for his quick wit and legendary “bad dad jokes,” Richard brought laughter wherever he went. He was deeply loved by family and friends alike—not only for his humor but also for his generous spirit and unwavering ability to lend a hand or solve a problem.
A Celebration of Life will be held in June 2026 in Page, Arizona—a fitting tribute in a place that meant so much to him.
May Richard’s memory bring comfort to those who knew him and inspiration to those who hear his story.
In lieu of flowers, Donations can be made to Hospice of Yuma.
