

Socorro P. Mesa, 87, joined her heavenly father Saturday, December 29, 2012. She was born June 27, 1925, in Yuma.
Mommy was a very strong, loving and proud woman who was loved by many. Mommy was a hard working lady all her life, who eventually settled into the job she loved, working with children at the Headstart program as a teachers' aide, and retiring as a Headstart grandmother.
She enjoyed her daily visits with her friends at the Yuma Adult Center, in which she partook in activities, her favorite was calling bingo.
Mommy was an active member of the Salvation Army Church where she enjoyed congregating with family and friends.
Socorro is survived by sons, Augustine Mesa, John Mesa, and Ernie Mesa; her daughters, Irene Landa, Mary "Chata" Christopher and Amelia Vasquez; as well as 20 grandchildren, 26½ great-grandchildren, and 14 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Margaret Olea; parents, Justa and Pedro Perez; grandson, Robert Olea; grand-daughter, Angela Ornelas; great-grandson, George Tuosto
A viewing will be held at Johnson Mortuary Sunday, January 6, 2013, from 5:00pm-8:00pm with Services at 7:00pm. Internment will be at 11:00am Monday, January 7, 2013, at her final resting place at Desert Lawn Memorial Park.
