

Steve is survived by his wife Yolanda P. Merino, sons David and Joseph, brother Mike Reyes. Family members include daughter-in-laws Irma Merino and Kathleen Merino, 8 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 4 great, great grandchildren.
He is proceeded in death by his parents Salvador and Lydia Reyes, son Steve Merino Jr, brothers Robert, Salvador,Roy and sister Belen.
Steve married his childhood sweetheart Yolanda, on August 26, 1953 In Yuma, Arizona. Married over 72 years they enjoyed traveling, boating, camping, socializing with friends at local clubs and especially all the family gatherings throughout the years.
Steve enlisted into the Naval Service at the age of 17. A Korean War combat veteran, he also served many years in the Arizona National Guard. In 1994 he retired after 33 years working at Yuma Proving Test Grounds as a weapons testing technician.
Steve's lifelong passion for off roading is well known. Affectionately dubbed the "Mayor" of Buttercup Dunes by his friends and family. A true shade tree mechanic, he fabricated 16 off Road buggies and jeeps only to give them away to his children and grandkids. He constantly would have car/truck parts scattered in his porch, backyard and anywhere else they would fit. At the age of 89, he could still be seen romping around at the dunes in his cherished "Tata Honey" sand buggy.
He was a role model for all who knew him instilling the importance of family, hardwork and to always do the right thing. Steve's ever ready quick wit highlighted his ever present sense of humor.
A private ceremony honoring Steve will be held at Johnson Mortuary & Desert Lawn Memorial Park in November.
