Yuma, AZ-With profound sadness and heavy hearts, the family of Tom ‘T.L.’ Hogan (ne Thomas Lewis Hogan) mourn the sudden loss of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and brother on January 11, 2017, at age 81.
Tom was born July 23, 1935 in Buchanan County, Iowa, the son of Robert Emmett Hogan and Marcella Marie (Jungers) Hogan. He graduated from St. John’s Catholic High School in Independence, IA with the class of 1954. On February 23, 1957, he was united in marriage to Bernita Susan Demuth at St. John’s Catholic Church, Independence, IA. They were married for 29 years until her death in 1986. In 1988, he met and later married Mary Ann (Coomer), who survives.
Tom was born a farmer. He began farming at a very early age with his dad and brothers in Iowa, then with his sons in Missouri. Over the years Tom has hauled heavy equipment, harvested wheat, and rebuilt tractors always with family at his side. Known for his kindness and generosity, he never knew a stranger. A born storyteller, Tom always had a tale to tell about his childhood in Iowa or about the adventures of raising five kids on a farm in Missouri.
Tom is survived by one daughter Ann Hogan (Eric) Berg of Lincoln, NE; four sons, Mart (Lori) Hogan of Wyaconda, MO; Tim (Merri) Hogan of Colorado Springs, CO; Joe (Debbie) Hogan of Yuma, AZ; Pete (Carolyn) Hogan of Yuma, AZ; one step-daughter Mary Huey (Doug) Dancer of Myrtle Creek, OR; four step-sons, Eddie (Lori) Huey of Grants Pass, OR; Otis (Tamara) Huey of Grants Pass, OR; Aldon (Jamie) Huey of Minot, ND; Lucky (Charla) Huey of Myrtle Creek, OR; four brothers, Martin of Ocqueoc, MI; Michael (Joanne) of Yuma, AZ; Robert (Mary) of Cedar Falls, IA; William (Gayle) of Nebraska City, NE; three sisters, Mary (Bob) Hopkins of Londonderry NH; Kate Hogan of Londonderry, NH; and Helen (Bill) May of Ballwin, MO.
He also is survived by 32 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, loving in-laws, nieces, nephews and a host of long-time friends.
A celebration of Tom’s life is planned for his birthday in July. Memorials may be directed to the Lester F. Larsen Tractor Test and Power Museum at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. We will forever miss you, T.L., and your love for us all. Go in peace.
