
Vera Marie Denning, 81, left her family July 24, 2015. She was born July 4, 1934 in Webb City, MO, her family moved to Yuma in the 40’s. Vera attended Yuma High School and before graduating in 1952 she lettered in softball, bowling and tennis. Vera loved the out of doors and had dogs, cats and horses. She worked at Vincent Air Force Base, now MCAS where in 1957 met her husband of 23 years, the late Nick Castello. Vera was a home maker and loved to cook, sew, quilt and garden. Her lasagna, meatballs, cheese cake, crawlers and fried bread will be missed. She kept everyone under cover with her quilts and blankets, she also assisted the church in making blankets for premature babies at the hospital. In her spare time she also taught tennis for Parks and Rec and Yuma Racquet club. She returned to school and graduated Phi Theta Kappa at AWC in 1992. Vera suffered from Dementia the last few years of her life and was able to stay at home with wonderful caregivers at her side and then moved to Kindred Homes where the wonderful care continued along with her doctor and Hospice Compasses care, she loved each and every one of them. Vera leaves behind her six children, Victoria Martin, Michael Castello, Josephine LeGate, Elizabeth Ames all of Yuma, Lucia Castello of Utah, and Mary Ann Petruske of Phoenix. She also leaves many Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren. Interment will be held at Desert Lawn Cemetery Friday August 14th at 9am.
