James “Jim” Mulcahy O’Regan, age 84 of Halifax, passed away April 20 of 2021 at the Halifax Infirmary. Born and raised in Halifax, he was the son of the late Alexander and Geraldine (nee Mulcahy) O’Regan.
Jim grew up and lived his life in the Quinpool Rd area of Halifax, enjoying the Commons as his front yard and the Shirley Street Arena as his backyard. He excelled at both baseball and hockey and was the Captain of the Saint Mary’s University Hockey team his graduating year. After finishing with organized sports Jim became well known as an avid all-weather runner throughout the city. He graduated Saint Mary’s University in 1961 and began a career as a respected math teacher in various High Schools, retiring in 1994. He was a long time member of St. Thomas Aquinas Church, a lifetime member of the Charitable Irish Society, and greatly enjoyed a spirited political debate or a lengthy discussion about history. Always proud to call Halifax home, Jim especially enjoyed his summers at their cottage in Pictou County.
Jim is survived by his wife, Barbara O’Regan (nee Cunningham) of Halifax; brother-in-law Fred Cunningham (late Carolyn) of Dartmouth; his sister-in-law Doreen Cunningham (late Alex) of Saint John, NB, 7 nephews and 4 nieces. He was predeceased by sister-in-law Isabelle Sandiland (late Tom).
