Connor Avery Hughes, beloved son, grandson, brother and friend, passed away on January 11, 2021 at the age of 21. Connor was known for his winning smile, kind heart, adventurous nature, keen wit and impeccable fashion sense.
He worked as a manager at Mister Car Wash, and was looking forward to an upcoming promotion. Connor also served in the Army National Guard, first in Albuquerque, NM, assisting in the effort to get much needed supplies and tests to areas hard hit by COVID. He then transferred to Camp Mabry in 2020 to be near his family and friends here in Austin. Connor spent a majority of his life in Austin and was happy to be back home. He loved nighttime swims at Barton Springs, daily dining at Tyson’s Tacos and running the trails around town.
Connor is survived by his mother, Karie Winfree, his father, Greg Hughes, his stepfather, Marcus Winfree, his sister Emma and little brother Graham as well as his grandparents Kathryn and Alvin Shults and Linda Hughes. He also leaves behind a wonderful group of cherished friends in Austin and Albuquerque.
A service was held in his honor at McCallum High School, on the field where he spent much of his adolescence and made so many happy memories. A military service will be held at Camp Mabry on February 21, 2020 for family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, his family is asking that donations be made in his name to Texas Organ Sharing Alliance (www.tosa1.org). Connor was an organ donor, and gave the gift of life to four other individuals as well as the gift of sight. He was, and will forever be, our hero.
