James (Jimmy) Oliver, went home to walk in the gardens of Heaven February 2, 2021, after a short battle with cancer. He was born in Quitman Arkansas, January 31, 1944 to William Riley and Tommie Clarice Oliver. At the age of 5 he and his family moved to Bauxite. Jimmy graduated Bauxite High School in 1962 and joined Reynold's Metal Company in 1963. He was later drafted to the Army and served in Vietnam. Jim often spoke of the "comradery" he experienced while there and the impact it had upon his life. On his return, he continued with Reynold's in the electric department and retired in 1987 when the plant closed. Jimmy was a "swapper and a trader" and was often on his backhoe or bulldozer. He loved nature and his long walks with God. Jim was as avid outdoorsman and hunter.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Doug Oliver, and a brother-in-law Felix Childress. He is survived by his brothers and sisters: Velma Bellinger (James), Marilyn Childress, sister-in-law Doris Oliver, George Oliver (Ursula), Tommy Oliver (Sharon) He is also survived by his two children, Ron Oliver and wife Audrey, and his daughter Rhonda Oliver Hixon and husband Shane. His grandchildren were his pride and joy: Mathew Cooper (Brandy), Kayla Cooper Robbins (Matthew), Jessie Oliver, and Garret Oliver. Jim's great-granddaughters, Mattie Faye Cooper and Daisy Grace Robbins were the light of his life. Jimmy will be missed by many nieces and nephews, life-long friends, and his community.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons Jessie and Garret Oliver and Mathew Cooper, son-in-law Shane Hixon, nephew Randy Childress, friends Mr. Ed Loftis and Marcy Livingston. Services will be officiated by Brother Mike Titsworth and held at Pinecrest Memorial Cemetery Tuesday, February 9th, at 11:00 am.
