Jack David Love was born on August 28, 1943, in Coalgate, Oklahoma, to William Frank and Nettie Velma (Roark) Love. William and Velma were raised in Coalgate, Oklahoma, then moved to Oklahoma City in 1947 for better opportunities for the family. The family moved to Jones, Oklahoma in 1959, where Jack resided for the next 62 years.
Jack graduated from Jones High School in 1962. His first job was at Modern Medals as a sheet metal fabricator. Jack retired as an Inspector at General Motors in 2003 after 25 years of service. During his 25 year career at General Motors, Jack was recognized and received Employee of the Month and Perfect Attendance Awards.
Jack was a simple man who loved his peace and quiet. He loved the outdoors and took his nephews quail hunting, skeet shooting and camping. His hobbies were drawing, oil painting, and photography of wildlife, mountains and watching western movies. He had a love of unique animals over the years including; llama’s, donkey, pigeons, goats and dogs. On Saturdays he enjoyed going to Cracker Barrel, shopping and watching movies with his sister, Rhonda. Before the passing of his sister in 2019, they always made sure to set aside time to spend with each other. Monty continued to keep the tradition and on Saturdays they would cook out and visit.
His nephews and niece, Monty, Rocky and Kacey, share memories of growing up having family dinners every Saturday and Sunday evening with Jack, their Mama and their grandparents. We would sit on the front porch to visit and we would ride motorcycles on the backroads of Jones during the summer. Jack got the joy of spending time with his great-niece, MacKenzie and loved when she read books to him and watching her ride her John deer tractor.
Jack traveled to Colorado in 2000 to Winter Park and in 2001 to Colorado Springs, with his nephews Monty and Rocky. They went white water rafting on the Colorado River and Arkansas River, rode horseback, rode Georgetown Railroad, walked across the Royal Gorge Bridge, took a trolley to the Summit of Pike’s Peak and visited the Garden of the God’s.
One of Jack’s final words was “I liked my simple life and I had a good life. I just want to sit on the front porch and watch the cars drive by.”
Jack is survived by his nephews, Monty Fortune, Rocky Fortune and wife Angie; Niece, Kacey Fortune; and great-niece MacKenzie Fortune. Jack is preceded in death by his parents, William and Velma Love; sister, Rhonda Fortune; niece Shannon Fortune; aunts, Pauline and husband Ira Henderson, Rowena and husband Newt Henderson, Jacqueline and husband Stanley Helms, Helen and husband Ben Wiemers, Peggy and husband Gerald Summers and host of cousins.
