Freda Geldart was a force to be reckoned with! Born Freda Spensley, on January 21, 1927, in Craghead, England, she emigrated to Canada with her family at the start of the Great Depression. Freda is remembered for her resilience growing up on a farm near Bowden, the youngest of nine children.
Her life as a partner in a dynamic duo began when she married the love of her life, Jack Geldart, on September 19, 1949. Whether working long hours at their store in Seba Beach, singing in the choir or around the piano with family and friends, travelling to West Africa, Hawaii, Jamaica, the UK and Saudi Arabia, plying the waters of Baptiste Lake in her canoe, baking Christmas cakes and Granny Loaf, or combing the shores of Parksville, Freda was inseparable from her Jack through sixty nine years of marriage. She had two great loves; her Jack and her family.
Freda passed away on March 25, 2021. A kind, caring person who made everyone feel welcome and at home, Freda was a loving, selfless mom to her three children, Carol, Lorrie (Conrad) and Jack (Debbie); and adored her four grandchildren, Jeff (Tracy), Lorin (Rochelle), Russell and Bennett; and three great grandchildren, Avery, Jay and Freyja.
