October 6, 1936 – April 1, 2021
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16
A graveside celebration of the blessed life of John Boyd Fincher, a selfless man of unmatched faith and character, will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 3, 2021, at Memory Hill Gardens - Garden of Devotion. Dr. Curtis Kelley and Pastor Randy Pate of Taylorville Baptist Church will officiate. Memory Chapel, a Dignity provider, is honored to be entrusted with final arrangements.
John was born October 6, 1936, the son of Hazel Bettevy Fincher and William Henry Fincher of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and entered his heavenly home on April 1, 2021, to be reunited with his parents and his brothers, William Henry Fincher II and Thomas Mitchell Fincher.
John graduated in 1955 from Tuscaloosa High School and attended Livingston State College and the University of Alabama. John was an electrician by trade, having learned the skill from his father, until his retirement in 2002, which soon found him riding a Honda Goldwing motorcycle with the Lazy J’s riding club.
John’s faith was central to his life, and he met regularly with his Sunday School Class at Taylorville Baptist Church. But on Saturdays, you could find John enthusiastically watching Alabama football from his home in Tuscaloosa or from Orange Beach with his family. Matching his love of the Tide was his love of the outdoors, and he never missed an opportunity to hunt deer or ducks or go fishing.
John cherished his roles as husband, father, and grandfather, and his granddaughters will forever remember and treasure trips with him to Disney World, to Camp Waldemar in Hunt, Texas, and to Orange Beach, Alabama, along with the weeks spent at his home for Alabama Tennis Camp.
John is survived by his wife of sixty-five love-filled years, Martha Ann Duncan Fincher; daughter Sandra Lynette Fincher Buckley and husband Greig; son John Michael Fincher and wife Robin, and their daughters Kiley Ann, Layne Carole, and Laura Lynette; and brother James Ozment Fincher and wife Gayle; and sisters-in-law Eula Duncan Hannah and Margaret Smith Fincher. Also missing John will be a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and neighbors.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in honor of John to Taylorville Baptist Church, 7201 Moundville Lane, Tuscaloosa, Alabama 35405, or to Hospice of West Alabama, 3851 Loop Road, Tuscaloosa, Alabama 35404.
John’s spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him. Our loss is Heaven's gain.
