MELVIN "COUGAR" PERALTA, age 69, devoted husband and father, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home on Monday, April 26, 2021. Mel was born November 29, 1951 to the late Melvin G. Peralta, Sr., and Joyce Kraus Peralta. He was a native of New Orleans and resided in Metairie for the past 47 years. He was a 1969 graduate of John McDonogh Sr. High School and a 1974 graduate of Xavier University College of Pharmacy. He is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years, Karen Knox Peralta, and his daughter, Aimee Peralta Redmann (Thomas), and his two bonus grandchildren, Cobey and Stella, who he affectionately called Boopsie. He is also survived by one brother John William Peralta (JoAnn) and a special Aunt “Nanie” who shared many wonderful times laughing together, and a host of nieces, nephews and lifelong friends.
He felt very fortunate to share a loving relationship with Addie and Tim McKee, who he considered family. Mel took great pride in being a Chemotherapy Pharmacist for many years at Ochsner Foundation. He was a positive inspirational force in every life he touched. Everyone knows how much he loved Disney World. He enjoyed many vacations there with family and friends. It was truly his “magical place.” He was a fan of LSU and enjoyed many years tailgating with friends. One of his greatest joys was cooking and baking and sharing his creations with everyone. Mel had a generous and kind heart, always thinking of others before himself. He had an exuberant personality and loved to make everyone laugh. He was most proud of being a loving husband to Karen, proud Daddy to Aimee, and doting Grampy to Cobey and his Boopsie. Mel's family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of Ochsner's oncology department and Hospice Compassus for the wonderful care he received. A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, May 27, 2021 at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Memorial Blvd. Metairie. Visitation will begin at 9AM with a Mass following at 11AM. Light refreshments will be available during visitation. Donations in his name may be made to The Ochsner Cancer Center https://www.ochsner.org/giving/donate/ways-to-donate .
