On Tuesday, June 15th, after enjoying a meal with two beloved friends, Father Benoit Thomas Jobin died suddenly. Father Jobin was born in St. Foy, Quebec in 1925. He is pre-deceased by his loving parents Alice (McClish) Jobin and Michel Jobin, brother Paul Jobin and sister Francoise (Jobin) Fortin. He is survived by his nephew Claude Fortin. After working with the Dominion Steamship Line, He entered St. Augustine’s Seminary as a seminarian studying for the Archdiocese of Toronto. He was ordained a priest by Cardinal McGuigan on June 5, 1954. Father Ben loved the priesthood and served the Archdiocese faithfully for 67 years. Father Jobin was Associate Pastor and Administrator at Sacre-Coeur Parish, Associate Pastor at Canadian Martyrs Parish and St. Boniface Parish and Pastor of St. Louis-de-France Parish, Good Shepherd Parish, Thornhill, St. Patrick’s Parish, Markham and Blessed Trinity Parish. He retired in 2001 and was in residence at Christie Gardens, Toronto. Even in retirement, he loved his ministry as a priest assisting and celebrating Mass regularly at the St. Stephens Centre, Newman Centre, St. John the Evangelist Parishes in Whitby and Weston and at St. Peter’s in Toronto. He will be greatly missed by many friends, especially Dr. John Chiu and Ms. Becky Liu. Donations in memory of Fr. Jobin can be made to ShareLife or the Shepherds Trust through the Archdiocese of Toronto. Due to COVID 19 protocols a private funeral mass will be celebrated for Fr. Jobin by Cardinal Collins at Blessed Trinity Parish on Monday June 21, 2021 at 11a.m. Attendance will be by invitation only. Livestream available; www.blessedtrinityparish.ca.
