John P. Massucco Jr of San Diego CA passed away peacefully July 12th, 2021, after a long illness.
John was born to John and Pauline Massucco in Fresno, CA.
He attended Saint Therese's Grammar School, San Joaquin Memorial High School (Class of 59), Fresno State, and University of San Diego Law School.
John retired after 37 years with the San Diego County District Attorney's Office as Chief Deputy District Attorney. John was well known for his persistence, tenacity, and dedication to protecting the rights of victims of crime. John prosecuted all types of crimes including murders, sexual assaults, robbery, and fraud. He was known as an outstanding manger, leader, and friend.
While serving under three District Attorneys, John distinguished himself in many ways, including serving as the President of the San Diego County DA's Association. Later, the Association recognized John with a Career Achievement Award and the Charles Nickel Award for Excellence in Criminal Justice.
John formed and managed Nationally recognized Units for Juvenile Crime, Major Fraud, Insurance Fraud, Workers Comp Fraud, and an Auto Theft Task Force that was honored with the National Association of Counties Achievement Award for Distinguished and Innovative Contribution to Improving County Government in the United States. The Auto Theft Task Force was considered the best in California and a National Model by the FBI.
John also was honored to receive the Public Service Award from the International Association of Special Investigation Units during a conference in New Mexico.
In his spare time John enjoyed lifelong success as a Cattle Rancher. His true passion in life since the age of seven was the family culture and tradition of hunting.
John was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his brother Harry Massucco and wife Janene, Nephew Harry Massucco Jr, Niece Lisa Debenedetto and husband Matt, great nephews Vincent and Lucca Debenedetto, cousins, longtime companion Patty Kiesner, and best friend and care giver Dominic Dugo.
Private funeral services were held and a celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date.
