He was a native of Natchez, Mississippi and was a graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi where he met his wife, Dianne. H.D. taught at LaGrange High School before becoming a Mud Engineer for Baroid. He then became an operator for Cit-Con where he worked for over 30 years until his retirement. He enjoyed fishing, going out to eat, watching football (especially supporting the Sulphur High Golden Tors as a season ticket holder) and spending time with family and friends. H.D. will be remembered as a very happy man who loved to laugh and enjoy life.
Survivors include his children, Wood Smith and wife, Tara of Carlyss, and Elise Moore of Sulphur; and his grandchildren, Tanner Moore, Lauren Moore, Gabrielle "Gabby" Moore, Thomas Smith, Melody Watson, and Blaine McGraw. He is preceded in death by his wife, Dianne Smith.
A Celebration of H.D.'s Life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 23, in Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home led by Jody Barrilleaux, Celebrant. Burial will be in Prien Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation is from 5-8 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. until the time of service Friday in the funeral home.
