Bob attended the Columbus School of Art in Ohio which began his lifelong passion for art and design. Bob met his future wife and best friend Mary in Toronto, Canada and they married in 1963. They would be celebrating 58 years of marriage in September. Bob was a loving husband, father and grandfather known for his genuine smile, quick wit, and gentle spirit.
After enjoying a long and successful career in the advertising design business with Federman, Adams and Colopy and later with the firm of Colopy Dale in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, he retired and spent many hours working in his garden and yard. He loved travelling with Mary and their good friends to Europe on many occasions and visiting family and friends all around the United States and Canada, always toting his special briefcase. Bob could always be counted on for a good talk and a strong Manhattan! He loved all aspects of art and design, especially museums and galleries. He was most proud of his children and grandchildren and dedicated his life to surrounding those around him with love. Even in his final days, Bob’s special charm was still present and we know he is finally enjoying a toddy in heaven surrounded by his friends and family that have gone before him.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Jack Colopy and sister-in-law Bernice.
He is survived by his wife, Mary McDonald Colopy; three children, Steven (Kelly) Colopy of Park City, Julie Maloney of Charlotte, and Lynne Casey (Scott) of Charlotte and five wonderful grandchildren, Kevin Colopy, Megan Colopy, Jack Maloney, Morgan Casey, and Erin Casey as well as many special nieces and nephews in California and Canada.
A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, August 3 at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, 3016 Providence Rd, Charlotte NC, 28211. Visitation begins one hour before the Funeral Mass.
