Constance “Coni” Estella Brandt, 72, of Southport, NC, passed away unexpectedly on October 5, 2021. Daughter of the late Matthew Charles Brandt, Jr. and the late Phoebe Rae Drennen, Coni was born in Washington, D.C. and raised in Kensington, Maryland. Coni received her B.A. degree in Sociology and English Literature, magna cum laude, from Shaw University in 2002.
Coni retired from a Federal Civilian career in the Department of the Army as the Command Group Secretary for the 596th Transportation Brigade (SDDC) Military Ocean Terminal, Sunny Point where she was presented the Commander’s Award for Civilian Service. Coni was also an award-winning author of poems and short stories.
Coni is survived by her sons, Joseph Patrick Hooker and Matthew Jeffrey Welborn; four grandchildren; and sisters Dr. Linda D. Drennen and Adjunct Professor, Arlene F. Drennen.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Laura Welborn; her brother, Samuel Edwin Brandt; and her sister Rae Anne Garrison.
A private cremation has taken place at Peacock - Newnam & White Funeral and Cremation Service in Southport, North Carolina.
