Lee was born in Nashville, TN, on April 7, 1955 to the late Malcolm Lee Barrett, Sr. and
the late Rachel Sisk Barrett. He graduated from Antioch High School and Middle
Tennessee State University. After a short teaching career, he worked hand in hand with
his father at Barrett Realty Company and continued building the company after his
father's death. Besides being a successful businessman, he was the Minister of Music
at Whitsett Baptist Church and later a deacon at Una Baptist Church. At his death he
was a member of Judson Baptist Church.
His work ethic was like few others. He didn't mind getting his hands dirty or working
long hours. He relied on a wonderful maintenance crew to carry part of that load and
especially Enrique Caceres during the past several years. There was always lots of
paperwork and deadlines to meet. His secretary of nineteen years, Johnnie Luken,
made all that possible. But she was so much more than a secretary. He could not have
been so successful without these people and many others throughout the years.
Lee loved anything that was outdoors, which included sports, hunting, gardening,
bushhogging, riding his tractor and bobcat, boating, and trips to the ocean and the
mountains. Lee was especially patriotic. He loved this country, the flag, and the
constitution with a passion. He avidly supported politicians that held his values.
I guess you would say that bears were his mascots. He had a multitude of wooden
carved bears in all sizes. They adorned his home, his office, and his book shelves. He
even had a concrete bear fountain at his office.
Most of all, Lee was a humble Christian man that was caring, gentle, and kind. He was
especially giving to those that needed a little encouragement in life whether it be in the
form of money or a place to live. He was not only generous with the gifts God had
given him but he was always about God's work, witnessing to people he met, about his
Jesus.
Lee leaves behind his wife, Pamela Grissom Barrett, and his three children, Riley,
Rachel, and Malcolm Lee Barrett, III (aka Leif), who were his pride and joy.
His sisters Nancy (Ray) Gannon and Judy Cothran. His nephews William Kenneth
(Amy) Nelms, III (aka Trey) and Timothy Blake Cothran. His niece Wendi Leigh
(Matthew) Williams, also 6 great nephews and 2 great nieces.
Lee decided to be cremated 32 years ago, against his mother's wishes. However we
are going to honor his wish. His internment will be at a later date. If you wish to be
notified of that date please notify Nancy. ([email protected] or 931-445-4664)
The family wishes to thank everyone for all the kind deeds and words shown and given
to us during this time. We are going to miss Lee terribly. He was our rock, our guide,
and always had our back. Please don't forget to pray for us.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.Woodlawn-Roesch-PattonFH.com for the Barrett family.
