Manfred, loving husband, father, and Opa is survived by his wife of 54 wonderful and loving years, Jutta Wolf; his children Corinna Wolf-Jeske, Volker Wolf, and Karsten Jeske; his two loving grandchildren Konstantin Jeske and Raina Wolf.
Manfred graduated from the University of Coburg, in Bavaria, Germany, with a Masters degree in Civil Engineering. He was a very successful engineer and owner of a developing company in Düsseldorf, Germany. After immigrating to Canada, in 1985, Manfred started a successful construction company, building houses in the Lower Mainland. He was a very hard working gentle soul, who enjoyed teaching his children and grandchildren the art of being handy. There was nothing, which Manfred was unable to fix or build. His children and grandchildren are very proud to have had Manfred as their teacher and guide, and hope to be able to pass on the skills and knowledge they have learned from him. Manfred and his wife resided on a large property for many years; where he enjoyed spending his time outside with his dogs, smoking salmon, making his own wine, going mushroom picking, preparing fire wood for the winter, building things in his workshop, or simply ‘puttering around’ outside.
Manfred was an avid fisherman, spending much of his time fishing in Ireland as well as around the Lower Mainland, the interior of BC, and parts of Vancouver Island. He loved being out on the water; relaxing while waiting for the catch of the day to bite his line. Manfred’s greatest wish was to have been able to teach his grandson, Konstantin, how to fish and to share this passion with him. Manfred enjoyed smoking salmon, which was always a welcomed treat by his family and friends; many commented that ‘his salmon was simply the best there was’.
Manfred had a great passion for travel and for exploring the World. One of his most special destinations was Maui, Hawaii, where he and his wife spent a lot of wonderful moments together; enjoying the sun and surf, sharing a lovely meal and cocktail, or simply listening to the waves crashing while enjoying a magical Maui sunset. Manfred’s liking for travel began at an early age, and continued throughout his life time; wonderful family vacations were taken while his children were very young and continued until he was no longer well enough to travel. The last vacation Manfred and his wife enjoyed together, was a cruise celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary.
Manfred was a real family man, whose number one priority was the well-being of his family, near and far. He was a very giving man, supporting his family back in Germany as well as providing a comfortable life for this family here. He was very well-liked by the people he interacted with, both, in his private and work life. Manfred was also a very generous and giving individual, always willing to help the less fortunate through donations or charities.
Manfred was loved very much by his family and friends, and his sense of humour, kindness, compassion, generosity, love, and teddy-bear personality will be greatly missed by anyone who had the pleasure of meeting or spending time with him.
As Manfred asked for a private memorial service, with only his wife, children, and grandchildren present, there will be no public service held. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation please be made to the BC Cancer Foundation, the BC Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, or the Lynn Valley Care Center.
