Dorothy Johnson Yeoman passed away peacefully in her home in Pontotoc, Mississippi January 23, 2018 at age 97. Dorothy was born July 22, 1920, to Rudolph and Dorthea (Andersen) Johnson in Prescott, Arizona. She and her brother, Rudy, were raised on her father's farm in Glendale, Arizona. She attended Stephens College, Columbia, Missouri, and graduated from Arizona State University. Dorothy married Elmer E. Yeoman, on February 27, 1943, in Glendale, Arizona. They were the parents of and are survived by Mark A. and Jacqueline (Marsh) Yeoman, Karen A.(Yeoman) and Carl B. Pratt, Stuart G. and Linda (Postillion) Yeoman, D.Scott and Cathy (Roberts) Yeoman, and Stephen W. and Susan(Brown) Yeoman.
Dorothy was a loving grandmother of 19 grandchildren, Matthew S. Yeoman, Joanna Yeoman Byrd, Kristin Pratt Rawlins, Rebecca Pratt Rasmussen, John W. Pratt, Stephen Y. Pratt, David J. Pratt, Elizabeth Pratt Yorgason, Laura Pratt Lewis, Deborah Pratt DeHoyos, Helen Yeoman-Shaw, Callen Yeoman, Wade Yeoman, Kaitlin Yeoman, Andrew Yeoman, Michelle Yeoman Siddall, Charles Yeoman, Anna Lauren Yeoman, and Brandon K. Yeoman (who preceded her in death).
Dorothy is blessed with thirty-seven great grandchildren, most of whom she did not have the opportunity meet.
While living in Tucson, Arizona, and raising her family, she enjoyed weekly volunteer work at the Cerebral Palsy Foundation and had a weekly golfing date with friends. Following her move to Mississippi in 1974, she lived on the family farm in Skuna Valley near Algoma. Dorothy was “hands on” in the business aspect of the cattle and farming operations and she served for a period of time on the Pontotoc County Farmers Home Administrative Committee.
Following her move to Pontotoc, Dorothy was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Pontotoc where she served in many capacities on different committees and commissions. She was an elder on the Session of the Church from 1984 through 1993, and was a dedicated member of Presbyterian Women and of her Sunday School class.
Wherever she lived, Dorothy loved flowers and in Pontotoc she enjoyed being a member of the Open Gate Garden Club. During the time she lived in the Pontotoc community she cultivated many lasting friendships and took a great deal of pleasure in her regular bridge games.
Later in life, Dorothy, the daughter of immigrant parents from Denmark, became a travel enthusiast, touring Europe with a dear neighbor and visiting her daughter and family in Lima, Peru and in Seville, Spain.
Dorothy cared about her follow man and looked for opportunities to be of service. In Pontotoc she contributed regularly to Habitat for Humanity and volunteered regularly at The Food Pantry.

We extend an expression of deep, heartfelt gratitude to the following ladies who were dedicated caregivers to Dorothy over the last 18 years. They served lovingly and selflessly for many years and blessed our mother's life, Josephine Laws, Marilyn Schallock, Annie Ware, Tonya Crump, Jamesanna Franklin, Opal Souter, Celia Ward, and the late Katiera Farr.
Services will be at 1 PM Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Will Howie officiating; private burial will follow in the Pontotoc City Cemetery. Browning Funeral Home in Pontotoc is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will be from 11 am to 1 pm, Saturday, February 3, 2018 at First Presbyterian Church in Pontotoc, MS.
