Into the arms and care of Eddie and Helen (Coleman) Washington. Lovie passed away Saturday,
May 11, 2019 at Oaklawn Hospital in Marshall, Michigan.
With her parents being and actively practicing the Pentecostal Denomination of Christianity,
at age 15 Lovie committed her life to Christ. Lovie loved various parts and functions of the
Church, which included; Kitchen, choir, Sunday school and later Missionary Work. But at heart
and true to her soul, Lovie was a worshipper.
Lovie’s work was in the home as a mother and her work as a mother within the Church
positioned her for work in the harvest, as she began to Par a Pro for Albion Public Schools.
Lovie was also blessed with a soul for creation; she loved to garden, watched storms, butterflies
and birds with the same excitement and wonder.
Lovie, being a seam stress in her twenties and thirties, also enjoyed making her own brand of African dolls. Giving little black girls in the community a sense of pride and uplifting. She
was also a free hand drawer, making magic on any canvas she laid her hands on. This gift she
passed on to all four of her children and some of her granny’s. She also went from working
dry cleaning to accounting, as she was a firm believer in education and growth.
Lovie was surpassed in transition by her parents, siblings, Helen (Washington) Murphy, Wanda and Vern “Chichi” (Washington) Taylor and Jesse Washington; nieces, Phoebe Jean Taylor, Wanda
Lovie Lavern Taylor and Cyrstal Felicia Westbrook.
Lovies yet to transition by her husband, James Smith; children, Joseph (Vontay-Martha) Harris,
Robert Jonathan Harris, Laura Jessica-Kenneth (Smith) Brown, Michael James (Derricka Smith);
Grandchildren, Joseph Vontay-Harris II, Xavier O’Shay Harris, Saniya Unique Harris, Bakari J`Vontez Harris, J`Mani Marshay Tyrese Harris, Akiila Maisha Harris, Derri Emma Lynne Smith;adopted children, Amir and Xavier Atchison, Malachi and Micah Brewer; siblings, Eddie (Delores) Washington Jr., Robert (Rosyln) Washington, Verena (Tony Westbrook) Washington; too many cousins, friends and associates.
