McDowell, Maureen Habrat, of Birmingham, passed away Saturday, May 11, 2019. Maureen was born January 10, 1945, in Birmingham, Alabama to the late Thaddeus Richard Habrat and Virginia Cassidy Habrat. After graduating from John Carroll Catholic High School, Maureen attended the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa and graduated from the School of Nursing at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She worked as a surgical nurse at the University of Alabama at Birmingham Hospital. As a longtime member of the Cathedral Church of the Advent, Maureen was involved with the St. Bridget's Guild and Lenten Lunches. She was also a member of the Redmont Park Garden Club and Redmont Study Club, as well as being actively involved with the Greater Birmingham Humane Society. Maureen was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Holt A. McDowell, Jr.; her brother, Michael Joseph Habrat and sister, Mary Habrat Sullivan. She is survived by her daughters Natalie Anderson and Melanie Kohn (Frank); stepdaughters, Brenda Stephenson (Glenn) and Lori Taylor (Chuck);her brother, Jack Habrat; grandchildren James Anderson, Caroline Kohn, Elizabeth Kohn, Krista Stephenson, Nathan Stephenson, Drew Taylor and Luke Taylor; nieces Amy Sullivan Bach (Bill), Mary Elizabeth Sullivan and Jacqueline Michelle Habrat; and many beloved family members and friends. A private Inurnment will be held in the Rector's Garden at the Cathedral Church of the Advent. Memorials may be made to the O'Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center at UAB - WTI 210 1720 2nd Ave. So.
