Ann Scarnati (nee Vitale), 95, a former resident of Yorktown Heights and the Bronx, died on Monday September 23, 2019 at the New York State Veterans Home in Montrose where she was a resident for the past seven years. She was born on March 28, 1924 to Frank and Nunzia Travato Vitale in the Bronx where she was raised and educated. On February 22, 1944, she married her loving and devoted husband, Ernest P. Scarnati at Immaculate Conception Church in the Bronx. Mr. Scarnati died on October 29, 2012.
Survivors include a daughter, Carol Ann Rizzi and her husband Walter of Ossining and three sons, Dr. Ernest Scarnati and his wife Donna of Bethany, Ct., Michael Scarnati and his wife Mary Ann of Yonkers and Anthony Scarnati and his wife Carol Ann of Montrose. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Michael Rizzi, Todd Files, Christina O’Donnell, Marisa Ruppel and Nicholas, Mariah, Michael and Dante Scarnati and seven great grandchildren, Nicholas, Liana, Angelia, Haley, Amelia, Elijah and Anthony Paul. She was predeceased by a grandson, Anthony Michael Scarnati, a sister, Rose Cali and three brothers, Anthony, Vincent and Charles Vitale.
Visiting hours will be at Edward F. Carter Funeral Home, 170 Kings Ferry Road, Montrose on Thursday 7-9pm. Funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Friday September 27th at 11am. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne. Donations in her memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
