Bona Puckett, age 92, passed away on November 24, 2019 in Tucker, Georgia. He is survived by his wife, Sue Puckett of Tucker, Georgia; his daughter Bonnelle (Stephen) Reed of Marietta, Georgia; his daughter Wanda (Olaf) Isele of West Chester, Ohio, and two grandsons Erik Isele and Karl Isele.
Bona is preceded in death, by his son Phillip Puckett; his parents; his brother Dr. Victor Lee (Dorothy)Puckett; his brother William Edward (Mary) Puckett; his sister Mary Alice (Arthur) Santora; his sister Lou Anna (John) Stowe; his brother Henry Allen (Delsie) Puckett; his sister Hettie Ellen; and his brother Warren Ovid Puckett.
Bona was born on January 22, 1927 in Buford, Georgia as the ninth of ultimately eleven children of the late Henry Alvis Puckett and Lottie S. (Johnson) Puckett. He graduated from Demorest High School in 1944, attended Piedmont College for one quarter, and then entered the United States Navy during World War II in the Pacific, until honorable discharge in August 1946. He then returned to Piedmont College, graduating in 1949 with a Bachelor’s degree. That same year, he married his beloved fellow student Sue Smoot. While teaching school in southern Georgia, he also attended George Peabody College for Teachers, graduating in 1952 with a Master’s degree. He continued teaching school for eight more years. Bona then joined Ziegler Tools in Atlanta, Georgia as a salesman and earnt an outstanding record and a reputation for excellent customer service, integrity and knowledge. He retired from Ziegler Tools after 30 years in 1990, and both Sue and him then spent much time at the lake house that he had built on Lake Chatuge near Hiawassee, Georgia.
Bona and Sue initially lived together in East Point, Georgia for a few years and then moved to Tucker, Georgia, where they have been for over 55 years. Bona was a dedicated family man, a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was an active member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church for over 50 years. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, building small and large things, and spending time at their lake house.
His family and friends will always remember him as a man of kindness and moral integrity, always putting others first and devoted to God.
A funeral service is scheduled at Floral Hills Funeral Home, Tucker, Georgia for Saturday November 30, 2019 at 11:00 am, with visitation held one hour prior to the service. Graveside committal will follow immediately at Floral Hills Cemetery. Afterwards, a reception will be held at Phoenix of Tucker Assisted Living. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Bona’s life. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
