Born 1931, in Ardmore, Pennsylvania, he attended Oakmont Elementary, Haverford Preparatory Academy and Villanova University. He served in the US Air Force attaining the rank of Airman First Class. In 1955 Bill married his wife of 40 years Elizabeth Dale Hamilton of Philadelphia, PA at Hickam AFB, Hawaii. Upon discharge he went to work for Stroud and Co. Brokerage House in Philadelphia, PA and Benning and Company Philadelphia, PA. He then became a Vice President with 1st Pennsylvania Bank and Trust.
In 1972 he took a job with Atlanta real estate developers First Centenna and the family moved to Roswell, GA. He then worked for the Ward White Company in commercial real estate, during this time he obtained his residential real estate license. He became an independent agent working in residential real estate in Roswell, GA.
Bill enjoyed sports and a wide range of music. He played football, ran track and played tennis at the Marion Cricket Club where he was known as Bill of the Blond Hair. While competing for Villanova University in track he had the opportunity to run in Madison Square Garden. He sang in glee clubs through college and after his time in the Air Force. As a young father living in Wayne, PA he sang in a Barbershop Quartet. Bill was an avid photographer, entertaining the family regularly with his slide shows.
He loved the outdoors, hiking in parks and in the mountains, often getting off the beaten path and into areas somewhat off limits.
Dale passed away after 40 years of marriage. Life would begin again in 1996 when he sold a condo in Roswell to Barbara Kirby Fain from Atlanta, GA. The two of them hit it off right away and were soon married. They we inseparable and did everything together. They remained in Roswell where they both loved living. He continued working in Residential Real Estate into his 80's until he slowly retired.
He loved getting out and going places with Barbara. Travelling to the beach was a pastime he and Barbara both shared. He had salt water in his veins and really felt at home around the sea. Falling in love with the Georgia coast, visiting there with Barbara became an annual trip to St. Simon’s Island where they enjoyed the beach, ocean and the wonderful restaurants on the island.
Bill always enjoyed a good meal, his favorite meals soon became Barbara's down home southern cooking. He remained married to his loving wife Barbara for 24 years. She was devoted to Bill and cared for him never leaving his side the last few years of his life while his health began to fail.
As a long tong time member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Roswell, GA. He served as lay minister and was on the Parish council during the 1970's and 1980's.
Bill was preceded in death by; father, Felix Maguire; mother, Roberta Mary Maguire; sister, Roberta Ann Maguire; and wife, Elizabeth Dale Maguire.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Maguire of Roswell; daughter, Linda Maguire Bradford (James); sons, William Edward Maguire Jr. (Diane) and Timothy Fox Maguire (Valeria Thomason); step-son, Roger Fain (Irene); step-daughter, Darlene Fain Brantley. grandchildren, Sam Bradford, Sean Bradford, Erin Bradford Brown (Chris), Peter Maguire, Katherine Maguire McCoy (Brandon), Patricia Maguire McDonnell (Kevin), Deborah Maguire, Laura Maguire; step grandson, Kenneth; 7 great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
Visitation for family and friends will be held 11:00am, Wednesday, January 29, 2020. Followed by the Funeral Service at 1:00pm.
