Born in Mt. Holly, NJ to George B. Rodman, Jr. and Pearl Jean Mingin. George spent most of his early years growing up in Levittown, PA with his younger brothers Robert and Bruce Rodman.
After graduating Woodrow Wilson High School in 1960, he went on to Massanutten Military Academy in VA where he spent two years before heading to the University of Southern Mississippi on a football scholarship. Some of his most cherished memories were spent playing football at USM, and had friendships that remained throughout his lifetime. He graduated with his bachelors degree in Education in 1966 and went on to teach high school and coach football in Lumberton, MS. In June of 1967, George met the love of his life, Carolyn Simpson, and they married just six months later. George and Carolyn had three children; Denny, Kara and Kristen.
George began a career at the VA Hospital in the early 70’s working in physical therapy, before going on to George Washington University in Washington D.C. to get his master’s degree in Hospital Administration. He had an extensive career with the VA Hospital where he retired as Director of the Biloxi/Gulfport VA in MS in 1998.
Throughout his service to the VA, he also served his country in the Army, Navy and Air Force Reserves in hospital administration, retiring in 1997 as LT. Col. USAF Reserves.
George was a devoted husband of 52 years, father, grandfather, great grandfather, son, brother, uncle and friend. He was known as a practical joker with a sweet tooth, a love of God, family, football and dogs. He was a devoted friend and Sunday School teacher. He was dearly loved, admired and will be greatly missed.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Rodman and parents George and Pearl Rodman.
He is survived by his son, George(Maria) Rodman and daughters Kristen Ewer and Kara Hooks. Grandchildren; Chase(Elaine), Ashley(Nick), Andrew, Autumn(Victor), Auburn(Alex), Paige, Joey, Fernando and Skyler. Great-grandchildren; Tinley and Emerson. Brothers; Robert(Christine) and Bruce(Nancy) Rodman. Many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
There will be a Visitation on Tuesday, June 30, 2020, 6-8 p.m. at Cook-Walden Chapel of the Hills Funeral Home, 9700 Anderson Mill Rd., Austin, TX 78750. Also the Graveside Funeral Services will be held at Central Texas State Veteran’s Cemetery, 11463 TX-195
