James H King born 5-30-31. He was born and raised in Albertville, AL. He joined the army January 1949 and served in the Korean War as a Corporal of the 1st Calvary until his honorable discharge in June 1952.
He was 20 when he and Maverine got married in October 1951 in Tuka, MS. They were married for 61 years until her death in 2012.
He retired from Goodyear in 1977. He loved to walk in his neighborhood and could be seen walking in any condition except for hard rain. He said he couldn’t walk and carry an umbrella. He even found items and on the side of the road and would sometimes drag them home especially if it was an old push lawn mower. He loved mowing grass and working in his yard. He even had a couple of yards through the years that he took care of. He loved having a tree cut down…..he and Maverine got into many discussion about those trees.
Due to declining health three times bladder cancer, falling and blood pressure issues in the last couple of years he and Cathy decided that it was time for him to move to an assisted living in July 2019. He wasn’t totally happy but learn to like it after he found out that there were approximately 30 women and only three men. He loved God, his family, mowing grass and working in his yard. He missed seeing his grandchildren but loved them and often ask about them.
He was a member of Paden Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Maverine Martin King; son, Michael Hoyt King; father, Rollie Preston King; mother, Annie Lou King; and brother, Frank King.
He is survived by his daughter, Cathy (Ricky) Phillips; sisters, Judy Woodard and Nell Belue; three grandsons, Jack Mitchell III, Jonathan Mitchell, Joshua Mitchell; 5 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild along with several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Service will be at 1p.m. Thursday, July 30, 2020 at Morgan Funeral Chapel with military honors.
