Marvin Parenteau departed this world on October 21, 2020 at the age of 83. He was married to the love of his life, Patty, for almost 59 years. You rarely saw one without the other - joined at the hip as they say. She loved him through motorcycles, racecars, airplanes, boats and more shenanigans than a dozen people could have gotten into in 12 lifetimes. He was the loving father of Carri (Thomas) Koehler and showed her the value of hard work, that there is humor in all situations, and that there is more than one way to tackle any problem. Marv was the most proud of his grandchildren, Jessica Koehler and T.J. Koehler. Anyone lucky enough to receive a ride in his shuttle van always heard stories about his grandkids.
Marv proudly served his country in the US Army. He spent the majority of life painting cars and operated Marv's Auto Service for many years. After retirement, he worked at several auto dealerships transporting customers - working right up until last month.
For many years Marv raced stock cars - becoming one of the most victorious drivers in Michigan. His efforts were recognized in 2014 when he was inducted into the Michigan Motorsports Hall of Fame. Shortly after retiring from racing, he arrived home with a stack of books and announced he was going to get his pilot's license - and fly he did. He spent many hours piloting his small plane and enjoying the view from above. After landing his plane for the last time, he and Patty took up boating and spent most weekends traveling with friends to marinas near and far. It was a very special time in their lives. Marv was always looking for new adventures and hobbies.
His family was grateful to share in his adventures and Marv will be lovingly remembered by his family and friends. He was predeceased by his infant son, Keith David.
The family would like to thank the staff at Ascension St. John Hospital for heroically taking care of Marv in his final weeks. When the family could not be with him, they were. When COVID took his last breath, they were there. If he could, Marv would ask us all to wear our masks during this crazy time.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society or the Johns Hopkins’ COVID-19 Response effort would be appreciated.
