The funeral will be held on Wednesday, November 18th, 2020 at 11:00 am at Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Houston, TX, with a graveside service to follow at Forest Park Lawndale.
Shirley was born in Houston, TX to Croston D. Dozier and Florence E. Dozier. Her father was a Carman for the Missouri Pacific Railroad and her mother was a beautician and homemaker.
Shirley graduated from Lutheran High School in Houston, TX, and then went on to the University of Houston, the University of Texas at Austin, and later graduated from nursing school in Houston. While attending the University of Houston she met her late husband, Stephen Thomas Cassias, at the Lutheran Student Center.
Shirley and Steve married on December 3, 1966, in Houston. They adopted their first child on October 21, 1971, Christine Renee Cassias, adopted their son, Christopher Stephen Cassias, on January 31, 1979, and had a third child, Catherine Elizabeth Cassias on March 9, 1985.
Shirley was a registered nurse and case manager for 30 years. She loved helping and caring for others her entire life. This was demonstrated through her career, community service to others, raising her children, caring for her grandchildren, involvement in the church at Trinity Lutheran, and Pilgrim Lutheran, and her generous, loving, and caring heart. Luke 6:38 states, “Give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.”
Mrs. Shirley Cassias is survived by her son Christopher Cassias, Daughter Catherine Cassias, Daughter-in-law Jeruzalem Cassias, grandson Declan Cassias, granddaughter Alyssa Cassias, and sisters Barbara Trickel and Deborah Goldner.
She was preceded in death by her parents Mr. and Mrs. Croston D. Dozier, husband Stephen Thomas Cassias, and daughter Christine Renee Cassias.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, November 18, 2020 at 11:00 am at Pilgrim Lutheran Church, 8601 Chimney Rock, Houston, Texas 77096. Interment will follow at 1:00 pm at Houston National Cemetery,10410 Veterans Memorial Dr, Houston,Tx 77038. Donations may be made to Lutheran Social Services.
