It is with broken hearts that we announce that Fred has passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Nov. 16, 2020 in Edmonton, AB. He has finally made his journey to rejoin his lifelong sweetheart, his wife Caroline (Carol) Granger, who had predeceased him on Aug. 27. 2001. They had met when he was 22 and she was 17, and had spent a lifetime of love together.
He has also gone to join his grandson Bradley (Oct. 5, 2010), his parents, Thomas and Agnes Granger, and the his eight siblings: Winnie, Agnes, Charlotte, Ellamay, George, Tom, Ed, and Steve.
Fred will always be in the hearts and memories of his three children: Cassandra Gerlat (Robert), Jerry Granger (Beth), and Candy Rheaume (Keith).
His grandchildren will also miss Grandpa and carry some of their own special memories: Tamara Snow (Matt), Kimberly Granger (Chris), Eric Gerlat, Shawn Gerlat, Joshua Rheaume, Geordie Granger.
Fred was also happy to have been able to meet his great-granddaughter Ivy even for a short time.
His heart was full of love, and he was also dearly loved by all of his family and friends. He will be missed by everyone whose life he touched, including many nieces, nephews, and relatives.
One of the special times in Fred's life as a young man was when his brother George, and George's wife Theresa, took him in to live with them and helped to raise him through his teenage years. Even though George had passed away quite some time ago, Theresa will always carry memories in her heart of the time when she was like a mother to Fred.
Fred was born in Winnipeg, MB. He was the 8th child of nine.
Fred worked for Lafarge Cement from a very young age, and was a loyal employee until he retired with them in 1982.
Fred's passion was golfing, it was his #1 sport that he enjoyed. Fred enjoyed many other sports in his younger years like curling, bowling, and water skiing.
Fred would like for everyone to live each day with happiness, and remember him with a smile. He always tried to make people smile, and would want everyone to remember his sense of humour. Dad always said, "Which way to the beach?"
In lieu of flowers, donations to the British Columbia Lung Association in memory of Fred would be appreciated.
