Ray was born in Glasgow, Scotland in 1942, the eldest daughter of Jean and Ben Sefi. She was predeceased by her parents, her brother Joseph and her loving husband, Iain. She married Iain Anderson, her soulmate, in September 1963 and immigrated to Canada in 1967. Iain unfortunately passed away in 1983.
She leaves to mourn her brother Leon and his wife Samira, sister Chris, niece Tamar (Victoria, Reynald and Matthew), nephew Greg, as well as many more nieces and nephews in Bosnia, Ontario, England and Scotland. Iain and Ray had no children, but she loved her sibling’s children and grandchildren as if they were her own.
She worked for 10 years as a bank teller in Glasgow and upon coming to Canada, she worked for Derksen Plumbing & Heating in the Residential Section. Ray then went on to work for Duraco Windows and Doors, where she was the Office Manager for 29 years.
She loved dogs. So, with Iain and another friend Philip, started the Collie Club of Canada, the National Breed Club. She was a life member of the Canadian Kennel Club, Collie Club of Canada, Red River Terrier Association, and the Cairn Terrier Club of Canada. They both loved the dog shows in Canada and the United States. Ray and Iain operated Dalchalm Kennels and Queenston Collies with their friend, Barry Elkin breeding Rough Collies and Miniature Schnauzers until Iain’s death. After which, Ray then went into Cairn Terriers. She bred many Canadian Champions. Her greatest joys were her beloved dogs.
Ray put all her energies into the Order of the Eastern Star. She was the Grand Chapter office assistant for many years. Ray joined Cawdor Chapter #205 in Bishopbriggs, Scotland in 1965 and affiliated with Jephthah Chapter #22 in Winnipeg. At her passing, she was a member of Patricia Chapter #8. Ray held many offices during her 55 years. She was Worthy Matron 3 times, a Grand Representative to Arizona, Scotland and at the time of her passing, she was also the Grand Representative of Australia. In 1991, she was Grand Adah and from 1995-1998 was a Grand Trustee. Ray was Worthy Grand Matron in 2008-2009 with brother Gordon Ebel as her partner. She enjoyed being a member of The Eastern Star Chalet Board. She was honored in 2012 by Most Worthy Grand Matron Sister Bobbie White, with a commission to The International Headquarters Committee of General Grand Chapter in Washington, DC.
She will be deeply missed by all those who knew her.
“Your life was a Blessing. Your memory a Treasure. You are LOVED beyond words and missed beyond Measure.”
