Lee was born in Ogden, Utah and spent his childhood and adolescent years in Moses Lake, Washington, and the Silverton Hills of Oregon. He attended Oregon State University and was an Army veteran, spending time in the service in Berlin, Germany.
In 1963 he married Eleanor Flores and together they raised their family in Portland, Oregon, and later moved to Camas, Washington. Lee and Eleanor were married for 57 years. Lee was extremely passionate about his family, his grandchildren, and his friends and customers that he met during his 40+ year career selling heavy equipment. He was a generous man, always willing to help others, and had a special gift for connecting with people, both loved ones and strangers. He loved hearing what he called "success stories" and elements of positivity in life. He was a master of finding creative, on-the-spot fixes to problems and loved spending time taking care of the landscape and garden he created for his family at their home in Camas, Wash. He loved telling corny jokes, singing along to music that had spoken to him throughout his life, and was a die-hard fan of "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly."
He is survived by his wife, Eleanor L. Gibby, of Portland; sister, Sharon Poppleton; daughters, Alisa Lafontaine, Krista (Phil) Wuest, and Meagan (Adam) Neff; son, Joel Gibby; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Delmar and Jennie Pope Gibby; sister, Frances Millington; and sister, Jean Miller.
