Peacefully on December 31, 2020, at the HSC Women’s Hospital, Ken passed away with family at his side. Ken is lovingly remembered by his daughter Barb; son Rob (Carolyn); grandchildren Tegan (Emanuel) Somerville Vieira and Chelsea; many nieces, nephews, & extended family wannabees. Ken was born in Winnipeg on March 5, 1927; son of Lee & Myrtle Somerville. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 50 years, Laura Somerville; his parents; sister & brother-in-law Eleanor (Jim) Hunter; brothers-in-law & sisters-in-law Morley (Helen Fahlman) Stevenson, Jay (Bill) Whitwell, & Grace Stevenson; nephew Doug Whitwell; great-niece Sarah Wilkins.
Ken attended school in Union Point, MB, St. Thomas, ON, & graduated from Daniel McIntyre, Cooper Institute & SICA in Winnipeg. Ken’s RIA (now CPA) career began with the Hudson’s Bay Fur Trade, McCabe Grain Co., Benjamin Bros. Limited, & he retired from K.A. Powell Canada|Kenwal Ltd.
Ken and Laura enjoyed time spent together whether it was going for drives & walks around Manitoba, playing tennis, Ski-dooing, downhill skiing in the mountains, or going on various cruises & family trips. Mostly they loved time spent with family and close friends; especially time with their adored granddaughters. Ken delighted in our frequent family get-togethers, & took pleasure in family vacations to Vancouver, Banff & Disneyworld. Ken enjoyed life; he was kind, generous, and had a great sense of humour; he was known for his unexpected funny sarcastic comments.
Saying goodbye isn’t easy Dad; you are already greatly missed by your family, and all those whose lives you touched. Love you always.
A special heartfelt thank you to the wonderful WRHA Home Care people that took such great care of Ken. The kindness & support you each provided Dad over the years is deeply appreciated.
In lieu of flowers, should friends so desire, donations in Ken’s memory to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation would be appreciated.
