Susie was born on March 13, 1946 to Norwood and Doris Windborne Crow in Greensboro, NC.
Susie will be remembered for her radiant energy and heart of gold. She was known by family and friends as the life of the party, the “cool” mom, and the loyal listening ear. Even though her chronic illness kept her homebound during her last few years of life, she was the opposite of a homebody. She loved traveling to Myrtle Beach with her girlfriends for “Beach Week”, shopping (especially for groceries), dancing and helping others. Susie was a loving wife to her husband, and nurturing mother for both her own children, and the children in the neighborhood. Susie was an excellent cook and could whip up a hot meal for any occasion. She loved to entertain, and enjoyed hosting the local bridge club at her home, especially during the holidays when her home was decorated with her collection of Santas, ceramic village and Christmas trees.
Surviving in addition to her husband Edward are her daughter, Natalie Smith and husband Rod of Pink Hill, NC (grandsons, Wesley and Worth); sister, Dori Hummel and husband Jerry of Carnesville, GA; four nieces, two nephews, and a special caregiver, Mike Hutto of Greenville. She is preceded in death by her son, Christopher Blackwelder, parents, Norwood and Doris Crow, and sister, Barbara Kirkpatrick.
A celebration of life will be conducted at a later date.
