Mary Margaret Michels, 58, passed away Thursday, February 18, 2021 in Atlanta, Georgia after 44 years battling and graciously accepting Multiple Sclerosis. Born December 1, 1962 in Augsburg, Germany to Captain James and Norma Stacey, Mary was the eighth of nine children.
Mary was born loving, happy, smart and energetic. That energy translated into a passion for dance and sports, in particular competitive swimming with the Kerr-McGee Swim Club in Oklahoma City and the Dallas Mustangs Swim Club in Dallas.
Mary graduated from Plano Senior High in 1980 and studied at Regis University and Texas A&M University. While working for Aetna in Dallas, Mary met Gregory Michels of Jersey Village, Texas marrying in 1994 at Baptist Temple in Houston. Their son, Jacob Christopher, was born in 1997.
Mary’s years following Jacob’s birth were focused on her family, her Christian faith, and a determination to bring joy, humor and her faith to her friends and others. Jacob was a consistent focus always bringing her pride and happiness. Her smile lit up the room when he entered. Her faith deepened through her bible studies, her interaction with others and her love of life. Her frequent luncheons with longtime friends, weekly visits and time with her best friend, Nancy Klipp, and outings with Jacob and his friends brought her much happiness.
Mary is preceded in death by her parents, James Stacey and Norma Stacey-Scott, her siblings, James Stacey, Jr., Jeanne Stacey, and Rebecca Spearman. She leaves behind her son, Jacob Michels (Georgia), and siblings Royal Stacey (Maryland), Marsha Carmichael and Catherine Shrode (Texas) and John Stacey and Mark Stacey (California) along with fifteen nieces and nephews, plus a host of loving, extended family members and friends.
A celebration of life is planned for late spring in Georgia. Graveside services will be Saturday, February 27, 2021 at 11:00 AM at the Woodlawn Garden of Memories Cemetery in Houston.
